How to become a One World Photography Staff Photographer
The most often asked question is what is the best method to get a full-time staff position as a photographer or camera operator within One World Photography?
We use a nominate system and most photographers are brought into the OWP family under recommendation by other staff photographers or editors and placed within our nominate program. After a year or two passed as a Nominate Photographer their portfolio is reviewed for one of our few yearly staff vacancies.
From the creation of this site we will now consider to promote photographers to the nominate program from our listed members base (members listed on this site). We base our decision on their dedication, profile, portfolio and images submitted for various contests, gallery shows as well as other deciding factors.
Nominate Photographers have the option of taking on paid OWP assignments, selling images through our client side database and news wire system, display work at our galleries and more. Nominate Photographers earn a majority percent on all imagery sales and per-day-pay on paid assignments, the highest percent and daily pay in the industry*.
As a Nominate Photographer one has the option of continuing to train at their own pace through a local newspaper, publication, newswire or by personal travels and take on periodic assignments, sell unused images and build up their portfolio for a OWP review at their own time or could commit to continuous OWP duties right away through an endless supply of assignment and sales platforms.
After the Nominate photographer has had the time to build up their portfolio for a review they can submit it once per year, generally in April-May. If the Nominate Photographer is selected into staff status they will be placed on a monthly salary and given higher percent of sales as well as full benefits, full time and first rate assignments, assignment per diem and full expense coverage. Once they have served five consecutive years as a staff member they are given full partnership status, put on the company profit share program, able to take part in board meetings, given first choice of base locations and assignments and invited with expenses to our once a year company get together and various adventure/camping trips.
*A Nominate Photographer is paid a min. of 84% and up to 88% of any sales from any image they submit for stock based sales. For images picked up through our newswire system, Nominate Photographers are paid on a percentage system equal to the total amount of images supplied, picked up and used that day. For paid assignment based work, Nominate Photographers earn a min of $250 per day and can go well over $1000 a day, depending on the client, contract, subject, photographer and usage.
